RCB suffered a setback in their IPL 2025 opener against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens as experienced pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar was ruled out due to a minor injury.

RCB Fans Shocked by Bhuvneshwar’s Absence

Bhuvneshwar’s absence surprised fans and experts, especially since RCB had signed him for ₹10.75 crore after 15 years.

Many expected him to be a key part of the team’s bowling attack. However, the franchise cleared the air right after the toss.

“We are playing with two spinners and three pacers. Our overseas players are Salt, Liam, Tim, and Hazlewood. Unfortunately, Bhuvi is out due to a minor injury, but he will be back soon,” RCB posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Rajat Patidar Leads RCB in Bhuvi’s Absence

With regular captain Faf du Plessis unavailable for the match, Rajat Patidar stepped in as stand-in skipper.

He won the toss and chose to bowl first, explaining, “The pitch looks hard. It’s an amazing feeling to lead RCB, and it’s a great opportunity to learn from senior players. We have prepared well for the last 10-15 days.”

RCB’s Bowling Attack Without Bhuvneshwar

In Bhuvneshwar’s absence, RCB relied on Josh Hazlewood, Rasikh Salam Dar, and Yash Dayal as their main fast bowlers.

However, many fans were frustrated with the decision to leave out an experienced bowler like Bhuvi.

Despite the frustration, RCB assured supporters that Bhuvi’s injury was minor and that he would be back soon.
